The data and documents on this system are the responsibility
of individual
authors of the GEDCOM files.
The GEDCOM files here are not policed for content by the operators of the GenServ System. The data on this system does not belong to GenServ - it belongs to the author of the GEDCOM file.
If you type in the wrong ID, the system will not process your request. Type it correctly, and the request will work
Data such as dates, names and places are not copywritable. The fact that similar information may be found here or elsewhere is a matter of public record and as such should not construe that GenServ has sold their data to other parties. We have not ever sold or given away a GEDCOM DATAFILE.
Someone could pirate information even from GenServ, one person, or one screen at a time. It might take a long time and use up all your inquries for a month, but someone unwilling to make contact COULD acquire the contents of an entire GedCom with their years uses on GenServ. However wrong this may be, people need to understand that the bottom line is the sharing of information. While our intent may be the best, does not mean that someone else will not use the DATA portion of our information to their own monetary gain.
It is the responsibility of individual GEDCOM data providers to comply with all applicable laws and standards (in their own state or country) of what should or should not be published in their own GEDCOM files. We do not take any responsibility in any way for the contents of the datafiles or contacts in them.
DO NOT INCLUDE VITAL INFORMATION ON LIVING PEOPLE
in your data
or any Social Security Numbers
Some policy must be set - and this is it. The submitter of the data is totally responsible for contents of their own data on this system. We do allow other submitters of the GenServ system to request reports which will have the submitters name and address appended to the report they receive. Only subscribers and those who have donated a GEDCOM file will have access to the submitter info on this system.
Please contact the owner of the GEDCOM file if you have a problem or question about the their data on this system. We are not responsible for the data or its contents.
-- Your full name, and email address
-- The database name which has the offending
info.
-- Send us a note about which info in the data
is offending to you.
If the owner of that database is a current subscriber, we will contact him or her and ask for an updated database without the offending info. If the owner is not a current subscriber we will delete that database from the system. We will try to please, and do not want information on this system which would be harmful to you or your family.
However, a database that has names only but no dates, places or notes about living individuals can not be considered offense enough to warrant the deletion of that file. In this case it will be left to the discretion of the owner of the file whether or not he/she will replace the file. If the owner cannot be found, the file will remain on the system.
PLEASE NOTE: The data on this system does not belong to GenServ - it does belong to the submitter of it. We store data (individuals names and information) here as a research tool for all subscribers to use. We do not have any rights to it now or later. nuff said !
