Dear Inquiree...
This is not the last resort page but the FIRST place to look if you are having problems or need answers. This is a collection of the most frequent questions we receive. This is not intended to be all inclusive. As we discover other issues, we will amend this FAQ.
Q. Where do I send my questions? Is it ok to send them to the last person with whom I corresponded?
Q. How do I get my File to you?
Q. I am having problems with my ID. Who do I contact to fix it?
Q. I've changed my E-mail address and I cannot get my mail from GenServ anymore! What do I do?
Q. We moved from our former home address. How do we update that?
Q. I mailed you a check. Have you received it yet?
Q. How often can I send an Update to my Data File?
Q: Do you check the GEDCOMs first and remove data on the living people?
A: No, it is NOT OK to send anything but personal correspondence to any of the helpers. The reason for this is that our helpers have lives too :) We have vacations, we get sick, our family gets sick.... but our GenServ computers go on and on. When you send your message to the correct GenServ address, someone will answer you ASAP.
Email: gs1 (at) GenServ.com is for questions about how to get information from the system - in other words - Instructions.

There are several exceptions but DO NOT send an update sooner than six months without first writing to email: gs1 (at) genserv.com for "permission". Be sure to include your ID and the database name, so that your update can be processed as quickly as possible.
Q: Do you check the GEDCOMs first and remove data on the living people?
A: No, we never edit a file.
Q: I have updated only one line since I submitted my GEDCOM. May I send just that line to you so that you can add it to my file already there?
A: No. We do not edit your data. Read the Disclaimer. It is your data and we will not edit it. Your GEDCOM does not belong to us. You do not GIVE your data to GenServ. It remains yours and if it is to be changed, you must do that with an update of the entire file.
